Mastercraft was founded in Ottawa in 1951 as a privately held company by John Greenberg, a mechanical engineer and architect. Mastercraft's principal business has been the acquisition, construction, development, ownership, operation and management of residential, commercial, and retail properties throughout Canada and United States. Mastercraft has been building landmark projects for the residential market for more than seven decades.

Mastercraft has established a successful track record building and developing landmark projects in Ottawa, Toronto, Vancouver, and Calgary for over 70 years and has developed over 12,000 condominiums, rental apartments and townhouses with a market value over $4 billion.

Starwood developed, owns, and manages Toronto's SoHo Hotel and Residences Canada, developed The Hazelton Hotel and Residences, Toronto's first five-star hotel, and SoHo Luxury Residences (SLR), extended-stay hotels in Toronto and Ottawa.

Mastercraft Starwood develops residential and mixed-use developments under its SoHo brand. SoHo is recognized for superior design and quality features and finishes. Starwood has developed Starwood Centre, SoHo Lofts at 188 Eglinton, SoHo Bayview, SoHo Condominiums, SoHo Parkway, SoHo Lisgar, and SoHo Champagne.

Mastercraft Urban (MURBCO) has complete several state-of-the-art, transit-oriented, purpose-built rental buildings including SoHo Italia, SoHo Champagne 2, and Gemini Tower.
